People are searching for form, focus, comfort and reflection. That what we want to believe, we make tactile by giving it a physical form. This is also what architecture does: it shows sacrality. An apse is the often semicircular space of a temple, where usually the altar is. In this work, Apse, Felipe van Laar withdraws himself in the quiet of a bunker, and exposes it as the workshop (/studio) in which the ever-searching movement of humans is investigated.
Felipe van Laar (NL, 1988) studied architecture and turned to the visual arts after his graduation. With architecture as his background, he creates large spatial installations and sculptures, with a focus on the fragile side of architecture at the heart of his practice.
